FAQs » 11. How do I choose the best keywords for my web site?
Choosing the right keywords is vital not only for ensuring high rankings, but also to increase the number of times a visitor decides to use your service or buy your products. It is pointless to increase your hits through search engines if it doesn’t increase the amount of business you get from it. Here are some basic guidelines for compiling a list of keywords:
- Each keyword should be at least 2 or 3 words - experience tells us that people use a search phrase specific to their needs as opposed to one word generalisations. For example “adventure holiday travel agent” will produce more relevant results than simply searching for “travel”.
- Try to put yourself into your customers’ shoes. What would you search for if you were looking for your services?
- Consider using your location, or the area in which you provide your products or services. This is especially important if you only operate within a particular region. Good examples would be “wood furniture Newcastle” or “handmade furniture North East”
